"Now your thoughts on Mara Serena or Intrepids. Serena is obviously larger (and cheaper)...do you know if you can book a private vehicle there? Do any of these camps do night drives? You have to be out of the park for the night drives, correct?"
Serena was great. On my only stay there, I was not with a group, but the groups I encountered were friendly, fine. Everything was very good. If you have your own vehicle, then you can drive to areas where the wildebeest are. As DanaPhx shows, they can be anywhere.
You can go direct to Serena and ask about booking your own vehicle. Or if you use an outfitter, they will book you a private vehicle for Serena or wherever you want to go.
I've read that somehow Serena has managed the ability to do night drives. I'd ask them directly, though. Also ask about any extra charges for it.
I am contemplating a big Mara trip someday--not soon. I've been thinking about just parking myself at Serena with my own vehicle most of the time because Serena costs less.

loru100,
This was obviously a long time ago .... but, we did a drive towards the Serena side from Governors and found a Black Rhino. Apparently, pretty difficult to find one .... also, was told that the Serena area is pretty good for cheetah and not so good for leopard. I have no idea about this info, though ....

Tom,
We were in main Govs in 1992 and at Little Govs this Sept. I didn't really notice a difference between the two -- except that Little Govs is smaller, which is why we went there this time. We did have to cross the river for game drives, but it was kind of fun and no big deal. We were in Tent 17, which was the closest to the river crossing and farthest from the bar and dining room. If your TA knows a good guide, request him.
