Good reference books for Namibia/ Botswana/ Southern Africa

Following on from Nicole's thread...

Can anyone recommend any good reference books for visits to Namibia and Botswana?

More in terms of animals/birds/fauna than hotel/site guides.

Thanks so much,

Kavey

Kavey, This is not really an answer to your question, but it is about books about Botswana, mysteries written by a Scotsman who lived (or lives I'm not sure) in Africa. Taking place in Botswana, these are simple but fun, they have just been reissued in the US, sure be available to you in UK. They are becoming quite popular.
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith, 1998
Tears of the Giraffe, by Alexander McCall Smith
Morality for Beautiful Girls, by Alexander McCall Smith, 2001
My daughter-in-law gave me all three of those books for Christmas. I just finished The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. It was charming and very evocative of Botswana.

Oh thank you, I will definitely look out for them. I do recall hearing about them before but completely forgot! Thanks!

What I'm hoping for is some books that someone can personally recommend which feature info on wildlife and bird identification and behaviour, but focusing on the countries in Souther Africa rather than East or overall.

Kavey
