The Telegraph (UK) reported the story of a surfing hippo near Durban, including a photo:

(Sorry about the long link but not a fan of Tiny URL)

Alas this hippo was later shot dead as later reported in SA's The Citizen:

The scientists who were involved in this latest study work in Nouabale Ndoki National Park in the Rep of Congo. Emma Stokes worked on the gorilla habitutation program at a NNNP camp called Mondika where today, if you visit, you meet Kingo, the habituated silverback, and his family. The other camp in the park is Mbeli Bai. Scientists continue to observe the daily comings and goings of western lowland gorilla from an observation tower built over the bai, a saline clearing in the forest. They have identified over 150 individuals. Nouabale forms one of the tri-national parks of the Central African Basin. Sister parks are Dzanga Ndoki in CAR and Lobeke in Cameroon. Visits to both Dzanga Ndoki and Nouabale are usually combined. There is a 2005 BBC film called The Secret Gorillas of Mondika to watch out for. Some great footage of Kingo. BBC was back in Nouabale several months ago, perhaps they will release another film. National Geo in Jan 08 had an article on Kingo as well.
