Lots of useful info here - I suggest you type Egypt into search box - it seems to be working these days.

For the oases, I'd type in their names, oasis, oases or desert. I've written a bunch on it on Fodors.

Don't spend most of your time in Cairo

Luxor! Don't spend all of your time in Cairo. You can see most of the sights in 3 days and by that time you will be wanting a change of pace! Luxor is by far my favorite place in Egypt. You will need at least 3 days there to do it justice. Life is slower and after Cairo traffic, you will love it. Please, don't miss Luxor. You can fly or take a train (I flew). Have you considered a cruise? You then can see Edfu and other temples on the Nile. There is a lot of information to be had on Foders. Just ask! I went in October of 2005. LOVED IT!!!!!!!
