I have a whole lot of bookmarks...
My favourite is the Wilderness Safaris site - they are the operator we used (via a UK agent) and did a superb job - they have a number of superb camps and a superb service.
The site is http://www.wilderness-safaris.com

There are also some other sites of other operators which do provide great information - I will sort through my bookmark list this weekend and post some of the ones in the list for you.

Kavey

PS I am also in the planning stages for a Botswana and Namibia trip and would be happy to email with you!

Here you go

Many of these are alternative operators and I keep the sites simply as information resources or just because I like looking at the photos!

(I use Wilderness Safaris through Sunvil Africa in the UK).

Wow!
Thanks for your list. That should keep me busy for a few months before making any final decissions
If you have any other information any time please e-mail to the above address adding 23.
Are you going with the Wilderness Safaris again?
When do you think you will make your booking?
What month of the year you are planning?
Thanks again

Hi Gina
Well we're either going to go for September as our 10th wedding anniversary is on the 3rd Sept 2004 or we will stick to June as we liked the cooler weather and the game viewing in that month.
You're welcome for the list.
We will definitely choose Wilderness Safari camps again and probably use the same UK operator although I will check into others.
If you'd like to see my photos of that last Africa trip do visit http://www.ofoto.com/I.jsp?m=3187265...03&n=977408959 where I have put some of them up. You will need to create an ofoto account to log in but that only takes a few seconds. Do feel free to add comments and let me know your favourite photo!
Happy Planning!
Kavey

PS I didn't buy it but the latest issue of Food & Travel has an article on restaurants in Cape Town. I think it's available in the US as the price on the cover is in both UK£ and US$.

Gina, did you book your safari directly in Kenya or with some company in your country?
we would be interested in Lewa Safari camp next year but two agents we talked to informed us that they do not deal with this private property

Gina what a wonderful report! So glad you shared. We're looking at a 2004 safari since our 2003 travel plans are set as well, but good to hear that February was a reasonable time to go. Until then, I will add your report to my growing file!

Thank you Heather and have a great time planning your safari. I hope you will love it as much as we did. But be prepared that after your first safari you will want to go back again and again.

James, we booked our safari through one agent here in the US. However, I cannot recommend him any longer.
You may get more information directly from Lewa Downs, check their website www.lewa.org. You will find their e-mail address there as well.
They have two places,
the Wilderness Trails and the Lewa Safari Camp where we stayed. We loved every moment we spent there.

Gina - I thoroughly enjoyed reading your report and it MAKES ME WANT TO GO!. I was in Namibia in mid-Aug 2002 and had PSD (post safari depression) for quite awhile after I got home. Reading your story makes me think Kenya must by my next destination. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Gina.
Is Lewa Safari Camp a private camp? How big is it?

Mandy, Lewa Downs is a private camp and it is fantastic. This is a place where you will see many wild rhinos but not many other travelers. It is a small camp with only 12 tents.
I would go back today but have to get ready for our trip to Andalusia

Kavey, thank you for asking.

Well, we just don't know what to do. When is the best time to go?
We have some commitments for the rest of our lives I think. Every year we go to the Seychelles in June and Alaska in July/August.

When I read about your experiences or Liz's passion for safaris at that moment I am ready to go, but then what to do about Seychelles and other places we want to visit?

I understand!

We're not going to Africa this year because we're going to Bordeaux, France for two weeks, as well as a week in UK, a weekend in Brugges and somewhere undecided for New Year's Eve.

Next year is the big return trip so the other trips that year will be short and sweet and not too expensive!

In 2005 we're likely to look at some of our other wish-list destinations - a return to New England, a first visit to Egypt etc.

If I won the lottery (big) then we'd also include one visit to Africa a year! But till then we balance it with the rest of our dream destinations list!

As for when - have a good search on this forum for lots of advice!

You guys are sooo funny! I think everyone of us here on this thread mentally have the lottery winnings all planned for at least yearly visits to Africa. We live in the Las Vegas area and we don't have a lottery, but we have MegaBucks machines that usually have the jackpot at around $20 million. My husband doesn't gamble but when the jackpot gets high he will play $20 and say well we will be heading to Africa if I win. I think you could wake me from a sound sleep and tell me I won the big jackpot and I could tell you within about 10 seconds the details of the trip we'd go on. Sooo funny! Liz

And now I am really thinking about safari. I don't think I can stay away from this amazing experience much longer. I can always blame you, Liz and a few others for my addiction to Africa
