Johan is correct, it is a civet. Hari...I did get close but always stayed out of its strike range. Being a non-venomous snake, it was quite safe (but they do have a sharp and painful bite if you get too close). I found the snake under the deck chairs by the pool but I can imagine the shock of someone suddenly seeing it whilst relaxing by the pool!!! I really liked Duba Plains - the camp was more rustic compared to the other WS camps but at the same time, it seemed to have the most "modern" rooms compared to the other WS camps.

As I mentioned before, room 6 was quite a long walk away from the reception area which was fine during the day. Smaller animals and creatures were always around - a variety of birds, lizards, insects and snakes (I saw 3 different green spotted bush snakes in the camp grounds of Duba). BUT at night, it was definitely the most scariest walk back to the room!!! (compared to the rest of the camps I stayed at). We were always escorted back but on all 3 nights we encountered elephants on the path, which come to feed on the trees around the tents - especially room 6!!! On our first night, what should have been a 3 minute walk, turned into a 15 minute walk. We encountered 2 separate groups with young members in tow. On both occasions, we had to stand absolutely still and switch off our torches while James negotiated our passage through.
