garden route

Hi!
May we know which is the best base to explore Garden route? We try to avoid changing hotels too often so would like to choose two hotels as a base and do day trips.
Is it still possible to have whale and dolphine watching in December? Is there any Game park around this region?
Thanks !

RSD

It would be easy to base yourself in one or two places along the garden route as it's not that long a stretch - maybe near Knysna or Plettenberg bay. You can also tack on some game viewing at the end - at Shamwari (big 5) private reserve or cheaper self-drive elephant viewing at Addo elephant park. you can see our detailed reviews and pics of special small hotels along the garden route on http://www.i-escape.com

Hi, for whale watching is Hermanus the best place. Knysna is the best for exploring the garden route. Blackwater River lodge is very nice and a bit outside of the town. We spent 2 weeks at the garden route and we enjoyed it very much.
Regards from Vienna
Silvia

I forgot: Addo Elephant Park is close to Port Elisabeth and Shamwari Game Reserve is one of the best in SA.
