Game Viewing in January

I am trying to plan a trip for next year, and may have to travel in early January. Is it just too hot to get in good game viewing? Please advise

It depends where you go. The temperature should be very comfortable in East Africa (Kenya or Tanzania).

Suggestion: Keep all your posts regarding the same subjet under the same initial thread. This way those reading know what other posters have said, your responses and changes along the way. You have posted three threads on this same subject, and everyone asks "which country" Even on this you don't mention that you've already said "trying to plan trip for next year on, on, on... - "to South Africa"

In this way, Kavey wouldn't have to ask which country and thit_cho wouldn't answer "east africa"

As to the temperature, it will be warm to hot in the Kruger area, but that won't have much impact on the animals. Though it is more likely animals will congregate near wherever water can be found. But then again, we're talking "animals" so no guarantee regardless time of year. The best time for game viewing is considered by most between June - August, but it's also very cold at that time of year; humans aren't always pleased with that. But if January is the time you have for holiday, if you're on private reserves or in national parks this shouldn't inhibit good game viewing.

Thanks for the info, I thought I had posted the last query under Botswana,as I am trying to figure out if there is a big difference in temperature depending where in Africa you go. Travelwise, January is the best time for me to go, but when spending this much money on a trip, I would rather go when the best game viewing experience will be as that is the primary goal.

If January is the month you can travel, then I'd suggest Tanzania in the southern part of the Serengeti. This is "usually" the calving period for the migration and it can be exceptional. If you happen to miss the calving period you'll in all probability catch the migration. You can also combine the southern Serengeti with a day in Ngorongoro Crater.

Have a great trip!

Although one selects a country when one posts a new thread, this is requested only for search purposes.
Posts are all shown together under the Africa/ME forum heading and viewers have no way at all of seeing which country was selected by the original poster when they created the thread.
