From JFK to Fez, Morocco
 

I'm trying to figure out the most economical, yet still convenient way to get to Fez. Is it cheaper and more efficient to fly from JFK to a European destination, then from there to Fez? Any suggestions?

If a European carrier flies direct to Fez?

Otherwise, I believe best fares will be non-stop JFK/CAS. Then make arrangements to get to Fez.

plenty of European carriers fly to Fes. Ryanair from Girona (Spain) or Frankfurt, Jet4You from Paris, there are also flights from Marseille. Flights from London with EasyJet are supposed to resume at some point in the near future.

You might try Air France or NWA/KLM.
We were in Morocco in March. One couple we met at our Riad in Fes told us they had found a very cheap flight from Paris on Jet4You. When they arrived in Paris they discovered their flight on Jet4 You was cancelled. They had to scramble to find a flight on another airline after arriving in Paris. They almost did not make it to Morocco. You may pay a bit more for airfare on a large air carrier, but if you are traveling a distance to go on vacation it may be better to be safe than sorry.

JFK to Casablanca, then on to Fes will take the least time.

If you live in NY then I'd take the direct flight to Casa and the train is about 4 hours to Fes. I flew from Chicago and it was less expensive and more direct for me to go non-stop to Madrid and then over. On my return I took the ferry to Andalucia for 2 weeks (just 16 miles from Morocco) and spent another 2 weeks there. The UK based cheap flights (Easyjet etc.)are another option if the US-UK leg makes sense.

The best way to get to Fez is via Spain (Barcelona)...I just booked a round trip ticket via RyanAir for October for less than USD100, departing from Girona (1.5 hrs from Barcelona). My booking is for Oct. 08 after Ramadan. RyanAir has the most flights into Fez. Another option is to check out Atlas Blue, another no-frills budget airline that flies into Fez. I heard Casa is not worth visiting - Fez or Marrakesh would be the 2 cities in Morocco that you must visit, but I heard that Fez has a larger medina than Marrakesh. Happy Travels!
