ChrisineB,
I cant comment on Auberge Clermont or Les Chambres as I have not stayed there before however I will comment on Plumwood Inn which I would recommend highly. http://www.plumwoodinn.com/ Plumwood Inn is a great guesthouse with fantastic hosts (Lucienne and Rolf) who will help you with all you need to know about the village and its surrounds. The guesthouse is very well appointed with all that you need at your fingertips. It has a great location from which you can walk to most of the "hot spots" in the village especially the restaurants. Another good Franschhoek place to stay at is in one of the Akademie Street Houses. (http://www.aka.co.za/index.htm) Very well appointed houses which are excellently located in the village. The houses are all individual so the choice is yours to make. Hope this helps make your stay in Franschhoek a good one. Very proudly part of the wonderful ((r))nation of South Africa |
Hi Christine
The best place by far in Franschoek is Harley House. I have stayed at many places and this one was the best. It is a large house with a swimming pool. Close to restaurants etc. May be a bit large if only two of you? Breakfast is served just down the road or you can self cater. The worst place of all I have stayed in is Auberge ChanteClaire, would not go near them! The place is fantastic (we stayed in their best room) but service is terrible. |
I would second the recommendation for Plumwood. I stayed there back in May 2004 and infact, I think it was following my stay that Selwyn looked it up and seconded my high opinion of it. Lovely, lovely hosts, lovely rooms, lovely location.

I third the recommendation of Akademie Street!
