Franschhoek free time

Our March, 2010 itinerary to South Africa calls for a free day in Franschhoek after a day touring the wine country. Our intention is to relax before we leave for our 4 night safari. But, I was wondering, if we did decide to do something that day, and rented a car, is there somewhere within comfortable driving distance, that we shouldn't miss?

Thanks, Judy

Where does your day tour take you?

I liked Stellenbosch a lot.

Our day tour will include Stellenbosch, as well as various tastings.

I would opt for the car and take off after breakfast and tour the various passes - landscape wise: some are close to passes in the alps ;-)

Having an extra day in the wine lands doesn't sound to me a "free" day because there are so many great wineries - one day would not be sufficient for me :-)

True. We spent 3 nights in Franschhoek in 2007.
