Doesn't it always go like that? One person has a great dinner, the next, not-so-great. Sorry yours wasn't the wonderful experience that we had when we were there.

Looking at all the different mails and views in this thread I now see why all the restauranteurs in Franschhoek make a reasonable living. :) I suppose it all comes down to personal choice. Thus while I fully respect LAleslie and Patty's opinions my favourite Franschoek eaterie remains Les Bon Vivant.

I forgot to mention in my previous posting that about 10 weeks ago we ate at Bouillebaise. (My third meal at this restaurant) For those who dont know the owners Camil and Ingrid, were the chef and maitre'd of Klein Olifants Hoek which certainly was a fabulous restaurant. We found the food at Bouillebaise to be good and innovative however two factors that detracted us were the fact that the seating in the restaurant was extremely tight (you could virtually eat out of your neigbours plate) and that as locals we found the restaurant to be very expensive.

I can't comment on recent reviews of Le Bon Vivant as my visit was back in May 2004.

Certainly at that time, the taste of the food was even better than the presentation. I'm very much considered to be a rather demanding eater so it takes a lot for me to be as impressed as I was.

I will say that for me the food at Le Bon Vivant beat the food at Petit Ferme hands down.

Patty, you are obviously a woman of discriminating taste!:D Sory I couldn't have warned you off LBV sooner. Have fun on the rest of your trip.
