It's safe to visit, but consider staying on the Zambian side - it's not so touristy, has better views of the Falls, and is cheaper.
There are two new luxury Hotels opening in April / May which give you unlimited free access to the Falls, whereas they charge US$20per visit on the Zimbabwean side.

Just asked my travel agent the same question. She said it is safe. The tourist areas of the Falls, Hwange, are fine. She also mentioned that you may be required to have a yellow fever inoculation for Zamgbia, but I was nto [pying too muych attention to htat part of the conversation (My bad!) so check with your travel agent or travel advisory.

She is going there next week so she will let me know. She is also sending me broochures of the new hotels. At least one is owned by Sun International of Sun City and Paradise Island fame. So I'm looking forward to seeing these.

I will try remember to post again after I hear from her. or you can e-mail me in 2 weeks to remind me. But if it is safe, you will have the most incredible experience if you go. The Falls are spectacular, very unspoilt and uncommercialised.

Nigel, I could be wrong but I don't remember paying to visit at the Zimbabwean side. I remember that we had to pay for a visa to get to the Zambian side. (Americans pay more than any other nationality!) Maybe I was so excited to be there, that it has slipped my mind. If I am wrong please let me know for future reference.

You are right in saying that there is a $10 visa charge for entering Zambia on a 'day-trip', but yes there is a $3 charge to enter the Falls, - perhaps you went with an organised Tour that included the entrance fee?
By the way, it's not Americans that pay higher visa entry fees, but the British! All nationalities including the Americans pay US$25 for a single entry visa whereas the Brits have to pay £35 ($52!)

Thanks.Nigel.I guess I must have forgotten the entrance fee. we justwalked over from the Vic Falls hotel. I remember partng with money somewhere.
Also, for Lois, you don't need to buy the rain ponchos they sell. We were there in what passes for winter and we were glad to get wet from the spray from the Falls. It ws so hot.
