Four days

Hi

My family and I (wife and 2 children) arrive in Johannesburg on a Sunday in mid March '07 and have 4 days free before having to be in Arusha on the Friday for the start of a Serengeti safari.

Any ideas on what we could do in the 4 days? I have thought about a few days in Zanzibar or the Cormoros Islands or even Namibia. Is Victoria Falls worth it and should I hire a car to get there?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Cheers

Peter,

Namibia honestly warrants a longer trip than 4 days.

If you want to go to Vic falls, the best option is to take a flight to either the Zimbabwe side (Vic falls airport) or to the Zambian side (Livingstone).

You could do an SA safari to the Sabi Sands, where you could have some very good leopard viewing.

Is there a reason you fly into Joburg for your East Africa safari? Perhaps fly into Nairobi and add more days to your safari in East Africa and get the most out of your visit there?

Many options.....

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I am locked into Joburg because of using frequent flyer points from Australia. That leg is booked as is the return leg from Singapore. The safari in east Africa is 10 days and then onto Egypt and the Middle east. I'd love to spend a while in Namibia and I appreciate that a mere whistle-stop visit does not do any place justice. The four days does not have to involve animals - just something special for the kids to see.

Peter,

Ok. How about Cape Town? 4 days there will be fantastic...

Another vote for Capetown!

I would fly into Victoria Falls (either Victoria Falls airport in Zimbabwe or Livingstone in Zambia, depending on where you get the best fare), and spend the time around the falls -- depending on the age of your kids, there's plenty of adventure stuff (bungy jumping, jet boating on the Zambezi, fishing, helicopter flights over the falls) and if you wanted to see another park, you could day trip to Hwange in Zimbabwe or Chobe in Botswana (with one overnight in the park).

Capetown has my vote too! We were there last year after Joburg and before safari in the Sabi Sand and loved the city! A gorgeous place with lots of great spots for children, great food, great sights and easy driving outside of the city to experience the Winelands. 4 days there would be perfect!

Hi all

Thanks for the advice to date.

A (South African) colleague of mine has just returned from a visit back to SA and when I put the same question to him, he also strongly recommended Cape Town so Cape Town it is!

Can anyone help with what is the going airfare for a return flight to Cape Town from Johannesburg?

Cheers
