food in the tents?

hi

this may seem silly, but prior to safari, i will be in madagascar and i will be purchasing vanilla, especially if it is fragrant.

i will wrap it as best i can, but is this souvenir going to pose a problem while on safari? will animals/snakes be attracted to the scent of this or any other food product, or will there be a mini bar (i know one place has a mini bar).

thanks,
kerikeri

I would think the scent could attract mosquitos.

Put the vanilla in a zip-lock, and if you are still uncomfortable, you can simply leave it in the safe at the lodge/ reception area.

I often buy herbs and spices when on holiday, and I've found that ziplocks (or other plastic containers) don't always seem to block the scent of strongly fragranced products completely. I've found that metal containers work better - maybe you could bring a small metal tin with a lid (like a pencil tin) and some foil that you could wrap and store the vanilla in.
Of course the best solution, as Queenie says, would be to ask the staff to store it in the safe.
