Fly or drive between Ng Crater and Migration Camp?
 

still wondering whether to fly or drive between Ng Crater and Migration Camp. Any thoughts or advice would be most welcome...

How far are the nearest airstrips to these locations?

How many days do you have in Serengeti? What month are you going to be there?

If you have time, driving would work since you are game driving along the way. The drive would be about 5-7 hours long.

If you are short on time, maybe flying will be better.

We are going in mid-Oct., will be spending 1 day in Lake Manyara, 2 in Ng Crater, and 2 in Serengeti...

There's an airstrip at Lake Manyara, which is a 2-2.5/hr drive from the Crater.

The Ndutu airstrip has recently been added to the route as a standard stop, and believe will be year-round. You'd have to check with your agent from which airstrip it's easier to transfer.

Also, if you choose to fly to Migration Camp, unless you pay to have your guide (or another guide/vehicle) meet you here, you'd be booked on a GP (game package) basis, using guide/vehicle from the camp.

The drive from Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti is about 3-3.5/hrs, then another 2/hrs to Migration Camp. When you consider you have to drive "back" 2-2.5/hrs to an airstrip if using Manyara, you can already be most of the way through the Serengeti.

Of course, depending on how often you stop for game viewing, the drive will be longer. We've done the drive from the Crater to the Western Serengeti, and though long, it was wonderful. It's part of the safari experience.

Driving will work since you have 2 nights in Migration Camp.

Along the way to Serengeti, you may want to stop at Oldupai Gorge (archeological site) or Shifting Sands. Maasai Village is an option as well (though do be warned it can be commercial - some love it, some do not enjoy it).

At Ngorongoro Crater you have Ngorongoro Airstrip next to Serena Lodge. However, I don't know which air charter offers connections to Lobo from here. (For instance, Coastal offers Arusha to Ngorongoro on request and depending on weather conditions.)

Next airstrip to Migration Camp is Lobo, about 20 kms south-east of camp.
