Flights booked! Got Biz Class which was a wonderful surprise (omen?)

Spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Delta Skymiles (their Montreal attendants are great)

Fly to Nairobi via Paris/Cairo (a little clumsy but not bad); then will pick up my own flight to Kigali/Arusha - then Nairobi to Johannesburg (own flight to Capetown) and return to Toronto via Johannesburg.

8 weeks!!

Working itinerary is

- Rwanda for trek
- Tanzania for migration
(above is about 2 weeks)
- Rent an apartment south of Capetown for 3 weeks or so - thinking Simonstown but would welcome suggestions - tour around the area
- Fly to Namibia (still working out that portion - need to find the coolest parts of Namibia!) for 3 weeks or so
- Return to Toronto and hopefully all the snow will be gone

Have just ordered a couple of books - Bradt Namibia and Eyewitness South Africa.....I'm thinking about holding off on booking the Namibia portion until we are in South Africa....wondering if there are any cost advantages to that.....anybody know?

Thanks for everyone's help - I'll post specific questions separately......

Best

Liz
you might get "Resident rates" in case you have an address in Cape Town which is not "touristy".

I am jealous except for the Nam part.

Happy planning!

ElizabethS, Namibia was the highlight of my trip to Southern Africa. DO NOT MISS IT. Soussuvlei, Skakomund, the Skelton Coast and Etosha are all worth a visit. I'd go back in a hearbeat, no questions asked. Just loved it.

Can't comment on weather it would be cheaper to make the arrangements in South Africa. Why don't you try to get some quotes from US/Canadian agents, and some from SA agents online to compare.

Liz - quotes from agets won't differ. Contact the venues directly. Then you might get the resident rates.

But having some quotes is mandatory to reach a decision/evaluate.

So what's with "biz class"? Delta throw that in, no charge, just because they like you?

Here's a countdown clock to help you keep track of days until - http://www.7is7.com/otto/countdown.html

Congrats!

I found booking accommodations directly very easy in Namibia. While it's low season in most of Namibia, I'm not sure about Swakopmund and other coastal areas.
