Flight recommendations to CapeTown?

I will be travelling to Cape Town, SA, for approximately 3 weeks in August for a medical procedure. I am wondering if anyone knows of cheap flights to CT from the US? I am on the West Coast, but if there is a good deal from JFK or somewhere else, I can book the short trip seperately.
I just started investigating prices today and they were quite pricey! $2400 and thereabouts. Hoping for something cheaper.
Thanks!

August is peak season for travel to South Africa, so it's unlikely to get a fare much lower then what you've seen. But you can keep checking with flights that go via Europe - London, Madrid, other.

If it's elective surgery and you can postpone, there have been sales for travel October & November - from JFK at $1000 on SAA non-stop to SA - these past 5-years that I've been checking.

Alternative - contact Premier Tours who are located in the Phila, Pa area at
www.premiertours.com

get their 800# and call direct for the "air department" and ask if they can do better for you.
