Flight cancellations on Virgin Atlantic service to NBO
Just FYI in case anyone is booked and hasn't received notification.
http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb...news/index.jsp Also note <i>"This advice will be reviewed on Friday 18 January, so we ask passengers on flights still operating after this date to check back here then."</i> suggesting there could be further cancellations. |
I guess again, no passengers to Nairobi or no fuel out of Nairobi. It's cheaper to cancel the flights. What about KLM from Amsterdam?
|
I checked in my CRS and KLM is operating to NBO as scheduled, but until Jan 18 is still making an unscheduled fuel stop in DAR on the return, thus arriving into AMS at 9am instead of 5:30am.
|
Yes, somewhere back in one of the other Kenya threads I'd also posted about the KL unscheduled DAR stop on the return. From what I understand, they're also swapping out crew in DAR. I guess they don't want to base them in Nairobi.
|
Maybe so, I don't know. KLM is established in DAR already, so it's probably easier for them to make a stop there and to get fuel than for an airline with no prior connections there. I'm just guessing though. IMO, JRO needs more competition, so maybe this will be a good lesson for the airlines to not put all their eggs in one basket and rely on Kenya to feed their TZ passengers via NBO. I believe, people would have still taken their TZ safaris if they didn't have to connect in NBO. As it now stands, this turmoil has really been bad for tourism in TZ also, which is such ashame!

While KLM is allowing changes for flights to NBO without a change fee thru Jan, I think it was, it's really not very helpful because they charge the current fare to another destination, which is astronomical at this late date. I looked into rerouting into Capetown and they would've charged about $6000!
If they're trying to be responsive to customers' needs in a time of crisis, they should just let you change the routing without additional cost. |
