first time in s. africa
I will be going to S. Africa in October hopefully, is it a good time to visit? This is my first time in S. Africa to visit a friend. What do you suggest I do for activities on my own, I don't want to be an inconvenience to my friend. I am planning to stay for about 3 weeks. I need suggestion on lodging places to eat and places to see. Thanks

Much of that depends on where your friend lives, though I suppose over three weeks you can get wherever you would like to go. I would highly suggest Cape Town. It's a good, friendly place for travelers traveling on their own with plenty of very friendly guest houses and b&b's where you can meet people to hang out with. You can also rent a car and head down to the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. The drive is incredible, and solo hiking in the area is an experience you can't miss...

Thanks for the advice, by the way she lives in johannesburg. I really don't have any idea where to go in S. Africa. My friend invited me to visit, and so I'm going without any idea where to go what to do. I am depending on her what she would like to do. But I would also like to know by myself where to go and do so as not to be a burden to her. Thanks again waisleft. If ever you are in my area don't hesitate to give me a message.

You might look at a travel guide book for South Africa to get ideas. (See what the library has.) Then you'll be able to make suggestions or at least ask questions when your friend proposes an activity, and you'll be in a better position to do things on your own when your friend is busy.

Thanks. I have many itinerarys in mind, I am inquiring if there are any more places to go and do that are not usually written on guide books. I have already bought Fodors southern africa and it's a big help.
