Federal Air luggage requirements
Help, please. We leave in 13 days for South Africa.
My travel agent seemed to imply that our soft-sided luggage with wheels and frames are okay for our Federal Air trip to Madikwe, as long as the weight does not exceed 20 kilos. My Fodor guidebook insists that flying to safari camps requires a duffel bag of a much smaller size. Which is it? Thanks, Judy |
Does Fodor guidebook specifically state this for FedAir??
Suggest you email Fedair - [email protected] , or call: +27(0) 11-395-9010 I "think" you will be ok with anything under 20 kilos. Also, if you have more luggage than that, I think they will store it for you until your return. Have a great safari in Madikwe!!! regards - tom |
Fed Air has become very strict about the weight lately, but we always use roller duffels and/or soft side with rollers with no problem...just total weight seems to be the issue. You could also contact your lodge in Madikwe about this as well. Have a great trip! I love Madikwe!

Your TA is right!
We have a kind of duffle (2 wheels and a lower hard frame somewhat 10cm height) and those were fine. Relax! And enjoy anticipation! :-) Happy travels! SV ((@)) |
What can you take as carry-on into the plane. We do not want to put out camera equipment in the hold when we travel to MalaMala next week

OP - The only possible issue using a bag with wheels, as these are squished into a small luggage hold, that they be damaged (fall off) and be of no further use.
barboy - You can take your camera equipment on board, assuming it doesn't weigh a ton. The usual camera body and reasonable size lenses in a proper padded bag will sit on your lap. |
