If you're looking for a hotel, I stayed here:

Best Western Regency Suites hotel Tel Aviv.

2 rooms, one with a queen bed, another with a pull-out sofa-bed, a kitchenette, 2 TVs, very close to the sea promenade.

Or you can rent an apartment, unfortunately, the search is not working, so hopefully somebody will post recommendations.

Ita, who are the members of the family (adults only, small kids, teens, how many people?)
When are you traveling, and what price range are you looking for?

sorry I wasn't precise-the family consists of parents and 2 young teens (and maybe room for a grandmother). The price should be moderate. I can't define that because I don't know what prices for accomodation are in Israel

Well, prices for hotels in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv can be the same as in some other large cities-- $200 plus per night per room,. The time of year makes a BIG BIG difference.
Winter tends to be lower.
Jewish holiday times are the most expensive.
For example, some of the nicer hotels in Tel Aviv were about $250 - 400 per night last April, for a room for 2 people.
A friend in Jerusalem who works in a luxury hotel was selling rooms for $500-$600 at that time!
I realize that you're probably not looking for that kind of splurge, but it still helps to know what kind of budget you're hoping to stick to

You absolutely don't have to pay $200 and more per night per room. In Tel Aviv try Hotel de la Mer and Hotel Maxim. Both in good locations and reasonably priced. You can also look at those hotels in Tel Aviv: Cinema Hotel, Center Hotel and Tal Hotel. They all are well under $200 and some of them have room suitable for 2 adults + 2 children!
