evening dress in safari lodges

This summer my family and I are making our first trip to Kenya. When traveling with Micato Safaris, what is the appropriate dress for evenings in the various safari lodges? And thanks to readers who answered my question about the yellow fever vaccine!

There's no special dress needed for evenings/dinners when on safari. Many wear what they did during the day. Others shower when they return from days activities and wear the next days clothing.

If you'd (for women) prefer to be out of safari tan/khaki, some pack a dark colored slack with a bright colored shirt/sweater, with scarf or chucky jewelry. Or replace the pants with a skirt.

But, nothing dressy is required... all very casual and comfy.

agree with sandi.
may be this will be a guideline:
in tented camps there is NO dressing up for dinner at all.
big lodges - sometimes there are people who dress up for dinner incl. jewelry mounting up to that of a xmas tree (mostly americans ;-)). but this is an exception.
because 15kg weight limit on taxi flights limit the space for fancy clothes.

Not sure - recently in SA on safari, i met a lot of Brazilians and they would dress up every night like they were going out to a trendy place in a big city!

I am checking the theory of censorship of words beginning with a and ending with s.

I once packed a different pair of shoes that were not boots or tennis shoes or flip flops. I regretted the use of packing space.

I take it you don't sport an ascot on safari, do you, Sniktawk? I have seen one. I've also seen the Safari Boa! No need for one of those, though, Kvonkeller.

Kvonkeller,

LyndaS has taken two Micato safaris. The last version of her packing list is on this thread:

If you haven't read her trip reports already, you can search for her name and trip report.

Hi Kvonkeller-

Sandi covered it really well in her response, but in case you were wondering about anything in particular for Micato (not just about the dress, but anything at all), just thought I'd let you know I'm always around!

We went two years with them (2006 and 2007), and am planning on going again next May with Micato again.

For both years I planned it so that the 'travel' outfit - which I sent to the laundry as soon as we got to the hotel in Nairobi - doubled as the outfit that I wore to the Pinto's supper and, in the first year, Mt Kenya Safari Club. The rest of the time I did as Sandi had said, I wore my next day's clothes at the previous night's supper.

It can be a lot cooler in the evening, so take a warm fleece or pullover.

That's just too cute, Patty, don't know how I missed that thread in April!

If you are at some of the higher end lodges, you might want to take a pretty sweater for the evenings. I took one or two that worked well with a clean pair of safari zip pants. Then, I would wear those same zip pants the next day in the bush.
