Evening dress code on the NIle Cruise?
 

Well, our trip is getting close enough to actually start thinking of packing! -We will be on the go, so we are trying to make do with carry-on luggage only. Is the evening on the Nile Cruise resort casual? (I'm assuming no shorts?) Maybe it depends on the Cruise Line?

jeepsterchick - it's not "no short" - but rather chilly for shorts. The temperatures can actually drop 30-degrees from daytime highs close to or above 90-degrees. It's a good idea to have a lite-weight jacket or shawl; and the boat indoors is air conditioned.

So nice casual is just fine. If you're lucky enough during your daytime shopping to find some interesting inexpensive scarves these are great to dress up a pair of slacks/sweater or whatever you choose for evening.

And most boats have one night for their Gallabeya Party where guests dress up as "Egyptians," as does the crew. You can find a gallabeya at most shore stops (which are also nice as gifts and inexpensive; maybe $10 for adult size men's of women's), or any other traditional clothing; most boats also have items available for rent at inexpensive fees. These parties can be lots of fun.

We returned one month ago from our trip to Egypt and sailed on the A&K Nile Adventurer.
Evening meals were neat casual dress except for the "Egyptian" Night when we purchased our costumes for $US8 approx on board.
Yes it can get cool of a night so a jacket was very useful!

I was able to limit packed clothing by sometimes wearing same type of long, lightweight pants I wore during the day with a dressier top, perhaps a scarf. Then would add a sweater and spend the evening on top deck watching the shore pass by.

One thing I had not planned on was that, in the heat, I often wanted to change my top halfway through the day because of heat, dust and sweat. Very possible to rinse things out during trip - don't really need to pack double.
