Teaching English in Morocco
Hello everyone!
I am a college student graduating this May with a degree in English and journalism and I am really interested in teaching English abroad next year. I want to go to a country where I could learn a language that would be helpful once I returned to the states. This is why Morocco, in particular, is appealing to me. French and Arabic would be so useful to learn (even if it's just a little bit). I have also always wanted to go there, anyway. Would teaching English in either Rabat or Marrakech be safe? Are there even a good amount of jobs for English teachers? If so, what do employers look for? Lastly, is certification necessary (as in TESOL or TEFL certification to teach English as a second language)?

there are many sites for expat English teachers where you can find forums. I just read one yesterday that was pretty down on teacher in Morocco being cheated, not paid, overcharged, over worked, disrespected and worse.
Find these boards for teachers and learn that way -- not through a travel forum.
Plus, Moroccon arabic is different from other arabic, and their french is too.
Never EVER go to one of these places without your OWN open ticket in your hand (which you do not tell anyone about!) and extra money.
And yes, you need certification and usually several years experience.
Why not get your certification and then go Peace Corps?

IN- Thank you for all of your helpful advice and concern! It seems that perhaps Morocco isn't the best place for me to teach English. I am now looking at European countries. Thanks again very much!

Teaching English in Morocco is perfectly fine!
I taught three years in Marrakech. It is a bit of a culture adjustment, and there are bound to be frustrations as with any teaching position. But honestly, the advice here is definitely a off.
I know a number of schools in Marrakech, both grammar/high schools and language class schools.
