Enough time to transfer at Wilson?

Hi all,

Looks like through the camp, we will be getting a flight from Masai Mara back to Nairobi - Wilson arriving 12:15 on Airkenya.

We are then going to Lamu and Safarilink has the best time that leaves Nairobi-Wilson at 13:45.

Does anyone know if that will give us enough time for transfer? Not sure how big the airport is and how luggages and security work. Since we are getting off one airline and need to check in with another airline.... will we have enough time?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Tiny airport, 90 minutes should be no problem.

Hakuna matata! No problem.

Wilson is a very very small airport. You get off one plane and when called board the next. Luggage will be transferred for you.

90/min is more than sufficient time, besides if the Lamu flight knows you're expected and should your flight from the Mara be late... they'll wait.

Thanks folks!

Sandi -- even if I am on a different airline from Mara? That's my main concern...

Governor Camp is booking the flight, I am wondering if I need to request them to stick to Safarilink ?(no idea if they will be willing to do it though)....

It's plenty of time as long as your flight from the Mara isn't delayed. However, is it possible to book everything on one carrier? I would think they'd be more likely to wait for you in that case.

Just saw your post about Governor booking your flight. If they won't put you on Safarilink, how about booking the Air Kenya flight to Lamu at 14:00?

Hi Patty,

Oh my! Silly me!!! I was only looking at the return flight from Lamu to Nairobi and didn't like the fact that it was transferring. But it just dawned on me that I could just buy the one way ticket from Naiorbi to Lamu on Airkenya like you have suggested!

Problem solved! Thanks for the help!!!!! =)

Now don't take my word for this :), but I've never concerned myself with a 90/min layover at Wilson. Even on my first visit eons ago, our 11am flight out of the Mara was late, with lots of peeps waiting and, of course, they're getting crazy. Sure enough, about 30-40/min later, 3/planes fly in and board everyone and off we went. Transfers and/or connections at Wilson were handled in a timely manner.

Whether you have tickets on same carrier or two different carriers, if one flight is late and you miss connection, they'll put you on another flight even if a different carrier. They rarely leave people hanging! The agents on the ground have a list of paxs arriving/departing and do a dame good job getting everyone where they've got to be.

Unless there's a catastrophe... doubt it, you'll be fine. It's not like trying to make a connection in the States or Europe when you're on the only or last flight out and have to run 10/miles to your gate.

if one flight is late and you miss connection, they'll put you on another flight even if a different carrier

That's good to know, thanks!
