Elephant Lovers
To our Fodor U.K. Friends:
The third film about Amboseli's EB family (Echo's family) will be shown on the BBC's Natural World on Wednesday January 19th at 8:00 p.m. BBC-2 and again on Sunday January 23rd at 6:10 p.m. Echo is the famous matriach that Cynthia Moss' group has been following for 30 years. She was just found to be bred last year at 55 years of age! That means perhaps there will be another calf in the family next year (pregnancy lasts about 22 months). The sounds for the movie were done by Joyce Poole and her Savannah Elephant Voices. A date for U.S. viewing hasn't been set yet, but when I hear I'll let people know. Jan |

Direct email received from Cynthia Moss' group:
*NEWS FLASH** Echo, the star of the documentary films, “Echo of the Elephants” and “Echo of the Elephants: the Next Generation”, gave birth to a new calf on January 12. This grand matriarch is 55-60 years old, probably closer to 60, and so she is one of the oldest females in the population to continue to breed. Jan |
