Egypt Tipping
 

I'm wondering what appropriate tips are for things like hotel staff - bellhops, concierge, room service, waitstaff, etc.

Also for transportation, guides.

I don't want to be a cheapskate, nor do I want to be robbed.

Just define how you want your tourism to be?
Live near by tourism places, or beaches?
I think the best place to live is in Downtown Cairo which you near to Museum, Nile, And the Airport 35 KM

Everyone in Egypt expects to be tipped for even the smallest service. A small bill is usually ok, but you'll need them all the time. Most hotels have banks and will cash larger bills into smaller ones. But expect to pay restroom attendants, porters, and anyone who helps you. That's part of the culture, and it can be a bit wearying after a while. In most cases, you can tip your guides in US dollars (particularly if it's a substantial amount ... just realize that US $1 bills can be difficult to change overseas), but most everyone else wants local currency. As a rule of thumb, 5 or 10 Egyptian pounds (the equivalent to 25 or 50 cents) still seems to be the magic number for a small service. But given the drop in value of the Egyptian pound, I think 10 pound might be more appropriate in most cases where 5 would have been OK a couple of years ago.

$1 = 17 EGP
So I think will not be different if give tips $1 instead of exchange to EGP

Did you miss: " just realize that US $1 bills can be difficult to change overseas"? The person you are tipping 17 EGP will be much happier to receive local currency, since that is what s/he will spend.

He will believe he can fly if he get tip by dollars and maybe leave the job hhhhh
You don't responsible to give tipping to everyone but must for room service , Delivery etc....
