Egypt - Siwa or Aswan/Luxor??

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have six days holiday in Egypt at the beginning of next month. I would like to spend at least 3 days in Cairo. This would leave me with 3 days to travel around the country. I am considering two options:

1. A three day trip to Siwa the desert oasis, which I have heard is amazing- its community has been completely untouched for centuries. Because it is quite isolated few tourist are able to get there. This is also the disadvantage - it is a 9 hour trip through desert(each way) so two of my days would be taken up with travelling.

2. A more convential trip down to Luxor and onto Aswan. Although I don't like tourist areas this has the advantage for me of being able to travel at night, so I can save on hotel bills and not waste daytime travelling. Also I assume the antiquities would be more impressive than in Siwa.

Has anyone been to both? Could you advise me on which is best. I am quite an adventerous single traveller.

I would find it hard to encourage yo to do anything but...cruise on the Nile and do Aswan and Luxor. This will give you a sense of Egypt that is impossible to get any other way and it would be too bad not to have this essence of the Egyptina experience along with Cairo. Save Siwa for another trip and it will be all the better because you have had the Nile and understand how it makes Egypt was it is and was. Have a wonderful time...try and get out to the old section of Cairo(I did it on public transport and was fine), and spend an afternoon wandering the Khan. Jodi
