Egypt Self Travel - Sinai

I am planning to organise my own travel, from Luxor to Hurgardah then ferry to Sharm El Sheik then on to Mt Sinai and stay overnight at monastery.

Questions can this be done without prebooking hotels, especially the
Monastery, how is travel to Monastery arrange and is there a bus from
monastery to Cairo.

Would appreciate comments. Leaving Mid March.

The rest of Egypt I think I am OK with, ie Luxor, Aswan and Cairo. Also
are busses running between Aswan and Abu Simbel or is the plane flight the only way.

We will be taking our young daughter 8 years old and from what I have
heard we should be all right, maybe the taxi drivers might feel sorry
for us and not overcharge us, or would they do the opposite.

We caught an overnight bus from Luxor to Sharm, but with a child it might be a bit harder. You shouldn't need to prebook. There are buses as well as service taxis going to Cairo from the monastory. Its not peak time when you're going I wouldn't worry. Flying is the only way to Abu Simbel. You'll get overcharged - but it will still be cheap. Just remember to haggle. If you don't then you're really get overcharged. But remember, they are poor by your standards. They are not going to lose the opportunity to make money by not overcharging a family that can afford to travel thousands of miles to vacation in their country. They consider it their right. Just grin and bare it - its a cheap country. I was there for 6 weeks in Nov/Dec so if you want any specific help please e-mail.
