Egypt Internet Cafes
Does anyone know where there is inexpensive internet services available in Cairo (Meridian Pyramids Hotel), Aswan (Movenpick Resort Aswan), Luxor (Steinberger Nile Palace? Someone also told me about McDonald's having free internet, but I don't know if I want to cart my laptop around there.

I don't specifically know about those locations but I can tell you I had no trouble finding internet cafes anywhere in Egypt. That was in 2007, I hope it's still so easy.

It should still be pretty easy to find some. Do expect them to be smoke filled and kind of icky. It is mostly young Egyptian men that smoke that can't afford their own computer that are using them, so that explains why they are like that.
I would tend to haul my laptop to any coffee shop or wherever you hear they have wifi available instead if I were you. That is pretty popular here now and lots of hotels offer it as do upscale coffee shops. I don't knwo about McD's but certainly other places do. They may want you to buy service, but it won't be terribly expensive. I think at Starbucks it is free, but you won't have any Starbucks near the hotels you are staying in. |
Thank you both for your info. As soon as I read "do expect them to be smoke filled and kind of icky," my brain went straight to the scene of one I went to very late at night in Shanghai, only with hundreds of kids. I didn't have my passport to use one, but an English speaking guy came in behind me and let me ride on his.

When we stayed there two years ago, there was an internet cafe right next door to the Steigenberger Palace. I didn't go -- my kids did, though, and it was inexpensive and worked fine. Very small place.
