Egypt in August
 

I'm planning to go to Egypt in August, as it is the only month my kids (big Kids from 16 to 21 years old) can come with us. And I really want to make a family trip...
But I'm worried about the weather. I live in Spain, so we're used to high temperatures; but, Is the heat in Egypt at August as terrible as I suppose?.
Any tips or advices from people that have gone in August?

I was in Egypt with my family last August. It is brutal (we also had no choice regarding when to travel). We were in Cairo, Aswan, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh. Cairo was very hot but sort of bearable. Luxor was almost unbearable - we were at Karnak Temple - it must have been 108° or 110° . We enjoyed our trip very much, but think we would have enjoyed it even more in better (i.e. cooler) conditions. (For what it's worth, my daughter and I were in Madrid for a few days right after Luxor, and Madrid was glorious weather - mid80s °).

I live in Texas where summer temps are brutal, but even I would never go Egypt in the summer.

We really waffled about going in August, but as I said, the dates for the trip were set by my son having finished his job in Uganda in late July. In retrospect, I wouldn't have done it, and I would never choose to do it again (in the summer, that is).

andonios - there is a reason all the expats leave Egypt in the summer......IT'S HOT! I never got back until about a week before school started in August.

However, if that is all you can do.......you just have to be prepared. Take it easy. Don't try to do too much. Schedule "indoor" things during the heat of the day.

This is so true. We just sucked it up, and then spent every late afternoon (and one whole day in Luxor) at the pool. It was actually a really nice way to travel.
