Egypt in April vs. January?

I had a trip to Egypt tentatively planned for next summer but now am having to change to either January or April. I just picture hot weather being part of the allure. So for that reason I'm concerned that January could be cold and not fun -- don't want to be going up the Nile in a parka.

However, the idea of the trip being impacted by khamseen in April worries me. Is it something that would ruin a trip - or just cause a day's plans to be changed?

Has anyone been in April? Thanks for any advice.

January is good.
Remember though, this is true desert, so nights are cooler than daytime; temps can drop 30-degrees. Regardless time of year, even in summer, a jacket or shawl required on Nile at night. Daytime temps will be fine. The farther south you travel the hotter it will get.

We did a Nile cruise the first week of April a few years ago. The weather was sunny and warm to hot during the day (probably mid- to high 80's)and the evenings were pleasant. We didn't experience any adverse weather.

Hi Leslie,
We went back in April 2005 and the weather was great if you like the heat. We arrived in Cairo in the beginning of April where it was a bit cool in the evening - needed a light jacket. We stayed 1 night in Cairo before heading off to Alexandria, Sharm, Luxor, down the Nile to Aswan/Abu Simbel and back to Cairo. It was hot the rest of the trip and by the time we got back to Cairo (at the end of April) it was really hot then too. We didn't get a cloud in the sky the entire time - if you like the heat, I would highly recommend Egypt in April.

Thanks for all of the input. I've just booked today for next May. Hotter than April (!) but won't have as much concern about windstorms, I hope.
