Egypt Hotels
We love to see and do as much as possible when we travel, do not need to stay in luxurious hotels. If emphasis is on clean and safe hotels in Egypt, will 3 star hotels be alright, or should we favor 4 star hotels in Egypt, assuming the ratings reflect hotel conditions.

The Hotel Longchamps is a VERY good 3* hotel. Other 3* hotels like the City View are fine, but no where near as good. If you can get into the Longchamps for the time you are here, you'll be lucky and enjoy it.
The Tallisman is not as good as the Longchamps in my opinion, but if you can get in there, you will probably think it's OK. I don't like the location of the City View or the Tallisman as they are located in downtown where it's as noisy as can be. If you are looking at downtown hotels though, you might want to check the Windsor out too. At least it has history. :) |
Highly recommend Longchamps. Hebba, the owner, and her staff are wonderful and will make you very comfortable. The hotel is located in a charming (for Cairo) neighborhood perfect for wandering and exploring.
Just remember, Longchamps doers not have the amenities of the Marriott or other large American-style hotel - it is an Egyptian hotel. Enjoy your visit |
We stayed at Pension Roma which is a budget hotel, but very clean and safe. Paid about $20/night for a non-AC room (but in retrospect, would definitely recommend booking AC!) Huge rooms and good location. Friendly staff. More info and pics in our Cairo post at http://patrinadoestheglobe.blogspot.com/

Another vote for the Hotel Longchamps in Cairo. Casual Cairo had suggested it in a thread and our family was so appreciative for such a wonderful place! After walking through the Marriott where we were originally supposed to be,the Hotel Longchamps was like an oasis in Cairo. Everything from the breakfast to the rooms,Hebba the owner and the free internet in the beautiful lounge rooms and balconies was perfect! There is a reason why it is rated the number 2 hotel in Cairo on Tripadvisor.

Forgot to add that it is in a neighborhood so you can walk to the pharmacy, newsstand, restaurants without the isolation feeling that I got at the Marriott.

Definitely i vote for Longchamp hotel

dear travel333,
if you wanna 3*hotel there is hotel called SANTANA HOTELin dokki area 10 min on feet to reach the EGYPIAN MUSEUM 4* hotel is ZOSER HOTEL in pyramids st,where i stayed . any further questions u r welcome |
armandomihai10 - where are you from?
|
iam ROMANIAN
BUT IT IS OFF POINT QOUESTION HHAHAHAH |
I was just wondering in what world you can walk from the Santana Hotel to the Museum in 10 minutes. I guess it's that Romanian world. HA!
Around here it would take a lot longer to get there from the Santana. It took me 10 minutes today to get from the Museum to the Ramses Hilton - granted I'm no speed walker, but I think the Santana is a good 30 minute walk IF you know where you are and which way to go, given street crossings and all. Santana is not that well located in my opinion - at least for walking to anything useful. Just a difference of opinion, I guess. |
i dissagree with you
SANTANA is very famous hotel there this only one straight street may be SANTANA will be more than 10 min but it is very interesting to walk in cairo's streets on both sides of the way the river nile it will be nice walking |
Any suggestions for a 2 night stay in Cairo for under US$ 20 for a double room?
|
Oh my goodness! I stayed at the Pensione Roma in 1990 and it was great then - I am glad to hear it is still around and being recommended. That is a huge calling card, staying popular for over 20 years. it's definitely a budget place though so your expectations are very important - but it was clean, safe, and atmospheric (at least back then)

Yes, the Pension Roma is good, as is the Mayfair, and the Garden City House. Here are some web sites-

jerrys - just in case you check this thread I was wondering if the agent you used at STI was someone you'd recommend as going above & beyond - or just the company in general?
I used them once before & would like to book again for next year but with a different agent this time. |
