Egypt - Footwear

We're touring Egypt in Mid-April. First time. We'll be hitting places like Giza, Karnak, Luxor, Valley of the Kings as well as a few museums, markets and such.

I'd like some advice on footwear for the climate and terrain we'll encounter. I'm in my mid-60s, fair health, not adverse to a lot of walking, but I don't want to be stuck with gear that is too heavy or too light for the activity and environment.

Any advice will be welcome. If rules allow, specific product as choice or example will be helpful.

I wore a well broken-in pair of tennis-looking shoes, leather, and found them perfect. It's sandy almost everywhere so sandals didn't work. I used low-cut socks and those were good too for all the walking, enough padding but cooler without the tops. Any not-too-heavy athletic shoes will be fine.
