Egypt: Cairo-Alexandria questions

I will arrive in Egypt by sea (Alexandria port).

1) Found out that getting to Cairo by land is 3-hour drive.
Has anyone done this drive? Are there eateries along the way to buy food/bottled water, etc.
Is it relatively security/safe?

2) How best to dress for for comfort in January-February weather? (I am prepped on how to dress to visit mosques, museums, and generally walking around).

3) I found SUMMIT TOURS on the web; anyone use them before as a guide in Cairo?

Thanks in advance - so excited; this is my first trip to Egypt!

I've done the drive and its easy and straightforward. While I don't remember any specific eateries, its the major highway in Egypt and I'm sure there are plenty of places to stop along the way. It was safe when I visited (August 1998) and I'm quite confident its still safe.

Mistik,

There are two roads from Alex to Cairo, the delta road has lots of traffic and several villages that offer food and drink. The desert road is a toll road with minimal traffic and very few places to stop. Take this into account when deciding which one to take.
