East Africa Tourist visa at airport
I will be travelling to Uganda and Rwanda shortly (US citizen). Uganda will be the first country. I was planning on getting an East Africa Tourist Visa on arrival at Entebbe airport. Has anyone done this before and can tell me what to expect? Is there a form that has be be filled out or do I just give them my passport and pay US$100? Thanks for any help.

Last I read, US citizens do NOT have to pay a Visa fee for entry Rwanda, but DO for Uganda. Thus no more than the fee for entry to Uganda which you can purchase on arrival. No need to pay more than necessary. USD$100 would be too much.

Thanks for your reply. However, this is what I've been told.
"From January 2014 you will be able to buy a single tourist visa that will be valid for Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. The charge of the special visa will be USD $100, giving access to the three countries for up to 90 days in any of the three countries. The visa can be purchased at the point of entry into any of these countries." |
I believe Rwanda charges $30 and Uganda $50 so buying separately at the airports will save you some money.

Thank you sdb2. Unfortunately effective June 1, 2015 Rwanda tourist visas are now $50 : https://www.migration.gov.rw/fileadm..._Visa_fees.pdf
Since the cost is $100 whether I purchase a separate visa for each country (Uganda and Rwanda) or got the East Africa Tourist visa that would cover both countries (as well as Kenya), it seemed more convenient to just get a single visa. I just wasn't sure what to expect in Uganda when I tried to obtain that visa. |
Thanks for that update, b0nnie29.

Thanks for the update. At one time neither the US or UK didn't have to pay for entry Visas. Things do change.

Update - Just got back from Uganda and Rwanda. I purchased an East Africa Tourist visa on arrival at Entebbe airport. No forms for me to fill out; I asked for this visa and paid $100 US dollars and the official put the visa into my passport. Very simple.
