E-tickets
 

Need advice friends. I just purchased my airline tickets for my 8th trip to Kenya the end of July. For the first time I am told "paper tikets" will no longer be given - only E-tickets.

I have never used E-tickets before nor have I seen anyone using them in Kenya. Am getting nervous. I know some African countries insists that you be able to show a "return ticket" if requested.

Do you think the E-tickets will be acceptable?

Don't worry, be happy. E-tickets are pretty much the standard procedure in the airline business.

All you need to have with you is the BOOKING NUMBER and identity papers (in your case, a valid passport). The staff at the airport will check and see your reservation.

E-tickets were issued for the first time on my last Africa trip also with no problem.

I too, for the first time, got an E-ticket for flights on KLM. Actually what was sent by mail was the last page of a paper ticket... the one that is marked "not good for travel" and would be the "receipt" of your flight itinerary.

Of course, I verified with KLM that they have us in their computer under the "locator number" on the ticket. They do. We reconfirmed our seat assignments. So we'll show up at the airport with this receipt (e-ticket), Passport (getting Visas upon arrival in both Tanzania and then Kenya). We should be set to go.

Yes, most African (and other) countries want to be certain visitors have a return ticket, but for our many trips this part of the world, we've never been asked to provide/show return tickets.

I think e-tickets are the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's one less thing you have to keep up with. If you lose the printout of your schedule, all you have to do is go to a computer and print it out again, or call the airline and jot it down on scratch paper.

I recently booked an award ticket w/AA to Egypt, and I was terribly disappointed when they told me I have to use a paper ticket. That's because one of my flight segments is on Swiss and they don't use e-tickets. I asked if other segments can be an e-ticket and they said no, if any part is paper, then the entire ticket is paper. Shucks!! Hopefully this will be my last time ever to use paper ticket.

Unlike other e-tickets that I have used, my Africa e-ticket on British Air was just that cardboard that read, "Not valid for travel." Just like Sandi's KLM tickets. That was a bit disconcerting, but upon checking, I found that's how it's done.

Never had a problem with e-tickets going from London to Jo'burg.

Thanks to everyone for the great replies. I am not quite as nervous about this now that I've gotten your advice. Glad to hear that some of you have used them in Africa before with no problems.
