Roccco, you're right. I'm all over the place. I guess I didn't start from the right place. I have only been browsing through the internet and the massive info available makes my head spin. Frankly, I saw so many names of destinations and they don't mean a thing to me because I simply don't know what each can offer me.

You think I should skip internet for now and start with, I don't know, Lonely Planet?

Good luck!

There is no problem combining Gorilla Safari with trip to Kenya or Tanzania. For the gorilla safari fly into Kigali in Rwanda and do the gorilla trek at the Volcano National Park rather than at Bwindi in Uganda. Your trip will work out much cheaper. I have done this with Vintage Africa - www.vintageafrica.com. They have 2 or 3 nt packages.

Also I suggest for your main safari you don't do one of the standard packages. I seriously suggest that you spend at least 4 to 5 nts in the Mara during the Aug/sept migration time at 2 different camps. Fly-in packages are available from several operators. You can also fly to Amboseli.

A good trip would be:
2nts Amboseli at Serena or Toritillis -flying
2nts Samburu at Serena or Intrepids - flying from Amboseli
5nts Masai Mara flying from Samburu (2nts Serena, 3nts Governor's Camp or Mara Intrepids Camp)
2 or 3 nts Gorilla flying from Nairobi

This will be more expensive then your standard package but much more satisfying. Also $800 per day packages are unnecessary in East Africa when there is excellent accommodation available at less than half that price.

Don't leave it too late to book as it is usually difficult to find accommodation at the right places during the migration period.
