Durban - worth a visit?

Hi everyone,
Just finalized the air tickets to SA, and am very excited. We're staying for 3 weeks plus a day or two, and flying into JNB from Canada, resting for a couple of nights, then doing 4 nights in Kruger at Elephant Plains.

The last 8-10 days will be in CPT+winelands. We plan on doing the garden route, hermanus, etc. in the middle, but have a couple of nights to spare. We were looking at Durban itself for 2 nights, but have read some negative comments on this board, esp. regarding safety.

Am looking for input on how to spend those 2-3 nights -- options we are considering are Battlefieds and the city of Durban itself, welcome comments on both, or any other thoughts.

Thanks in advance,
Darcie

I would skip Durban and either go to the Battlefields or the Drakensberg. If you decide on the former, I strongly recommend Fugitves' Drift Lodge: http://www.rattrayshistoricallodges.com/
