Dubai for 2 days.

On our way to Europe we are having a two day stopover in Dubai. The travel agent has mentioned several trips we could do. We are not interested in the dinner out into the desert. Have done similar things here in Australia. But would like advice on a city tour or the afternoon tea one they talk about. We are happy not to do tours but don't want to miss out seeing things. Is it easier to have your own guide or is that too espensive. Help please.

Traffic in that city is a killer. I'd take a cab and hit the gold and spice markets. But that is me, the rest of the place is one ugly sweaty concrete jungle. Actually I am being harsh simply because I recoil in the face of such materialism, but if you are into seeing modern architecture and such then a guide would be a worth while addition to your stay. If you don't do the desert dinner a dhow cruise with a meal could be fun.
