Leonia, I was in Dubai just last week.
Palm Island is an expensive real estate project. I enjoyed our stay in Dubai, but I must say, could not live there, for the heat (32 degrees at midnight on our arrival, and high humidity)

Palm may well be an engineering marvel but also may be a great white elephant. Some believe that each frond will become a major traffic bottle neck - then there will be a massive one at the trunk as traffic hits the major intersecting roads. People were initially sold the concept of villas with land around them and sand beaches and some hotels - now as need for more profit, villas are crammed next to each other, far more hotels and hotel apartments are planned - so more service staff and more traffic, while sand beach is washed away - so more rocks instead. It will be an interesting time ahead for Dubai but very much buyer beware - false advertising is a specialty here.
