Driving from CapeTown to Port Elizabeth

Hello all,

I leave for South Africa and Botswana next week.

Want to thank everyone for their inputs and time (Kavey, Selwyn, Sandi and others).

One last query, I was wondering whether anybody has suggestions for a driving route to get from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth? My husband and I have 4-5 days for this (2nd dec-6th dec)

As of now, we've decided to stop in Arniston for 2 nights (drive around nearby places) and then head to Tsala treetop lodge for 2 nights from where we head straight to PE. Does this make sense?

Thanks in advance,
Regards/Aarti

Hi Aarti

I'm sure that Selwyn will be able to give advice on a driving route, I just wanted to say that you are going to love Arniston. I was there at the beginning of October and it is just wonderful. Be sure to visit the sea cave and have dinner in one of the fishing cottages. If you're staying at the Arniston Hotel you're in for a treat - it's a hidden gem and the breakfast chef knows her way around an omelette! It's probably a bit late for many whale sightings, but you will still see plenty of dolphins.

Hi Traci, thanks a ton! I was hoping somebody would comment on Arniston. Selwyn said its a nice place but a little out of the way. We really dont mind car travel (We've driven practically the whole of New Zealand!)and we absolutely LOVE the beach and water so it seemed like a good idea!

What kind of temperatures are we likely to find in Cape Town this time of the year? Will it be "hot hot"? I come from a country where summer temperatures can go upto 40 degress (celcius), so just wondering...

Some people say its good to have a guide in Cape Town to show you around the city. Do you recommend this? Can we explore the city on our own?

Look forward to your inputs.

Hi

Accordning to cnn.com you can expect to have something like 28 degrees during the day and as low as 13 at night.

My wife and I have been to Cape Town 3 times and it is a great city. It is such a wonderful place and it has lots to offer. We have gotten around using bus, mini-bus, taxi and cars.

We have also done the Garden Route from CT to PE and it was nice. On the way you will find many town with beautiful beaches.

I have posted trip reports with pictures from our trips to Cape Town on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com by the way Maybe you can find some useful information there. Have a great trip
