Driving Aswan to Luxor

Does anyone have any recent experience or knowledge for driving between Aswan and Luxor. I would hire a car and driver.

If you get a car with an Egyptian driver, you shouldn't have any problems. I wouldn't attempt it without an Egyptian driver simply because he knows the language and will know if there are any issues you need to know about before going.

We do a tour down that way to see Edfu and Komombo though and have no problems with that, so you shouldn't have problems with that area.

Have a good time.

Thanks. I was told by someone that Edfu was considered dangerous at this time on the drive.

You know that sort of info sort of changes on a daily basis. I don't know who told you that or what their experience was, but perhaps something did happen there one day.
I just called my VERY trusted Egyptologist in Luxor to ask him if there was something going on that I didn't know about, and he says there is no danger in Edfu these days. If you can perhaps get whoever told you this to be more specific about when and what happened to give this impression and information, perhaps we can address something specific with better details and answers.

We took the drive last year ( read and see, http://bloggage.me ) and I am very glad we did that rather take a cruise. You see a lot more of the countryside and everyday life. You also tend to arrive at a different time from a hundred cruise boat passengers, so the temples are not really busy.

I'll repeat what I keep saying... When the Egyptians get rowdy nowadays, they are mad at their government (or each other) not foreigners. I try to follow the news as well as I can from North America (we just got back at the end of April from another trip hat included Egypt). I have not heard of any serious problems regarding tourists. It seems to be more dangerous to be a tourist in some countries of Europe.
