Does Mauritius have racial problems?

Our daughter is going to Mauritius with her boyfriend who is a coloured Mauitian (she is white) do we need to worry about any racial problems with them being together there? What is the place really like for residents ie. not the resorts and beaches but the normal family and environment? Is there anything she should know? Thanks, it's one place that you see or hear very little of except for its great beaches.

Should have no problem at all. Very nice people although many are very poor.

its 5 years since I was there but I don't suppose it has changed much. Mauritius is such a melting pot of different ethnic groups and I was amazed at the lack of racial tension. Fabulous place!!

You won't have any problems at all. Although not black, my father is a Chinese Mauritian and my mother is English. We go to Mauritius for family holidays all the time and have never had any problems. Mauritius is such a cultural melting pot both currently and historically I would be very surprised if a mixed relationship even raised an eyebrow
