South Africa National Parks is auctioning 20 white rhinos tomorrow.

I know, how about all of us here chip in together, buy an old game farm somewhere (perhaps TZ?) or put in an offer in on one of these:

I dunno. My niece wants a pony. This may be more animal than she's counting on. On the other hand, we wouldn't have to worry about burglars anymore.

How much do they eat? And, more importantly, how much manure are we talking about?

Auctioning Rhinos, they actually give Elephants away. Some friends were involved in the transportation of a breeding herd to a game park in the eastern cape. KNP give you the Elephants, you have to provide the transport. (And a suitable home obviously!)

The only problem is that these are *herd* animals. One only just won't do...

My town prohibits farm animals - but I think either rhino or elephant would be OK since I do not consider them farm animals.

Naivette in full glory here...but is this for real or why don't they relocate these animals to, say...Zambia?

I believe they are generally sold to private reserves within South Africa. I would expect that a Zambian operator could bid for a rhino, but where would it go -- there is still poaching in the Zambian parks and I doubt they would pay the high price for a rhino only to have him turned into a Yemini knife handle.

Because given Zambia's poaching issues, that would be a death sentence.

Like I said, naive..... I had hoped poaching was under better control by now. Let's hope someday rhino will again roam safely in Zambia...and elswhere.
