Do I have to worry abt malaria in Cape Town or just the safari???
TIA..too lazy to look it up on the CDC.

Just on the safari. Stop worrying now and enjoy the wonderful trip you have planned! :)

It also depends where you are going to "safari". For the "malaria risk map" (and lot's of other info on that site), see
http://www.malaria.org.za/Malaria_Ri.../risk_maps.htm As you wil see, it is only the far NE part of the country that is affected. That includes the Kruger Park and surrounding area, and the northern KwaZulu-Natal parks. |
Apologies for perhaps being pedantic, but I really hate it when people use unnecessary apostrophes. So I've gotta correct my "lot's" in my last post. That should of course be "lots".

Dont have or recall the order of your safari, but if doing CPT first, then you don't need malaria meds. If then doing Kruger or other malaria risk areas you should commence (assume you'll be taking Malarone) the meds, 2-days prior arriving at Kruger, while in Kruger or other malaria areas and for 7-days after leaving these areas. By now you may be on a beach relaxing or home.
If doing CPT after Kruger or other malaria risk areas, you again have to commence taking pills 2-days prior arriving Kruger, while here and for 7-days after. If these 7-days include CPT, so be it - you need to take the last 7-pills. Take the pills, same time daily, preferrably in the morning with dairy - milk, yougurt, cheese... definitely with food. You should be fine. |

Rarely, anywhere that I've traveled, have I not found plain yougurt from breakfast buffets. And definitely, individual packaged cups of yougurt (most flavored, but also plain). |
