Diving/Hotel recommendation for Sharm-el-Sheikh?

Any advice on good dive operators and/or hotels in Sharm would be much appreciated. One note though, my husband & I are trying to keep this a budget holiday so Hilton's and the like are out. As long as the place is clean and has some charm, we are happy. Is it possible to find that for under $60-70 U.S.? As for the dive operators, I imagine most are competive so any recommendation is appreciated. Thanks!

Consider going to Dahab instead. They have a much wider range of mid price hotels. A dive shop I have been recommended there is Club Red. They have a website. <BR>

Also, have a like at the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree. They have a Diving/Snorkelling section, and there are a few dive shop recommendations on that.

Jo...thanks for the info. We were originally going to Dahab on a tour but when we found out the tour size could be in the 35 persons range, we opted to do the Sinai on our own. We chose Sharm because of the better diving. Hmm, looks like we may have to either forego the budget or the better diving! <BR>

You can definitely find reasonably priced hotels in Sharm. May be not as cheap as you could find in Dahab, but definitely under $60. The 2 following URLs lead you to info about 2 of these hotels: Sanafer and Tiran Village. The third URL leads you to a more comprehensive international hotel guide. You can use it to search for info about hotels almost everywhere, at various price ranges. Have a nice trip! <BR> <BR>Sanafer <BR>http://www.interoz.com/egypt/h215.htm <BR> <BR>Tiran Village <BR>http://www.interoz.com/egypt/h220.htm <BR> <BR>Hotel directory: <BR>http://www.hotelguide.com/e_search.cfm

Hi- <BR> <BR>Am I to assume that the snorkeling in this region is just as good as the diving? I don't like to dive, but I love to snorkel. <BR> <BR>Also, what is considered the most luxurious hotel in Sharm el Sheikh? <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR> <BR>Frankie

Frankie: I lived in Egypt for 10 years and did alot of diving. I think the nicest hotel in Sharm is the Sonesta. Very nice rooms and good, friendly service. It is right on Naama Bay and you can walk down the "boardwalk" to everyplace. Also, across the street is the Movenpick casino which I liked after a long, hard day of diving, sunning and funning! Sharm is very overbuilt now and the diving isn't as good as it was 10 years ago (it isn't as good anywhere in the world), but I still think it is a fun place.

Frank, <BR>The snorkeling is very good too, and Sharm is very close to Ras Mohamed, where both the snorkeling and the diving are excellent. As far as luxury hotels in Sharm, I think the Movenpick is the best, and its part of the beach is the nicest. I also like the Hilton Fayrouz Resort.

I live in Cairo now. My husband and I dive as often as we can manage it. We go to Sharm quite a bit and usually stay at the Marriott, but the new Hyatt has just opened and we're ready to try it out. <BR> <BR>With all that, we prefer the diving in Dahab. This is a village that somehow got stuck in the 60's. There are dreadlocks and tie-dyes everywhere. We stay at the Novotel there. Don't know what the tourist rate is. There are many places to stay wherever you go. <BR> <BR>Check out Red Sea Divers and Colona Divers. Have you considered an overnight dive boat trip? Sometimes you can happen upon a reasonable one. Nothing like it. <BR>
