Great low priced options to fly to Lusaka. Both this and Wilderness Safaris basically taking over Kafue National Park should really boost tourism further to Zambia.

One sample air that I found, departing Joburg on June 23rd and returning on June 29th is for a combined R1458 per person for the round trip flight of Joburg - Lusaka - Joburg.

With todays conversion rate of 6.13 to 1 USD, it works out to only $238 USD per person ($119 each way), or about half the price of the South African Airways flight. This now makes flying onward to the Lower Zambezi or Mfuwe (South Luangwa) no more expensive than flying to the Sabi Sand or other Kruger areas.

Just an example...now a person could take a June or July trip to South Luangwa and spend five nights at Kafunta River Lodge & Kafunta Island Bush Camp and expect to pay $238 per person from Joburg to Lusaka, an additional $400 per person for the return flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe and do the 5 night Bush Experience package split between Kafunta River Lodge and Kafunta Island Bush Camp for the rack rate price of $990 per person sharing.

Grand total to fly all the way to South Luangwa from Joburg and spend five nights? A mere $1628 per person, an average of $325.60 per person per night sharing. Unbelievable.

Somebody is finally on top of things...looks like the merger between Zambian Airways and Airwaves Airlink is off to a positive start.

Hi Rocco,

Very impressive -- I think this will certainly make Zambia more accessible, particularly for people from the UK and Europe, where you can often get inexpensive flights to Joburg. Hopefully this will also make BA drop the prices on their London-Lusaka flights.

Cheers,
Julian
