This would be amazing if true as air from the NY area to Kili is currently around $1600. A google search of AFD Airways just yielding nothing. Sorry to be a skeptic.

AFD seems to be Airport Facility Directory!

AFD seems to be a Charter airline.

The Google search pulled up a number of items, with the first being based out of the UK; another from Qatar.

Got to be April Fool's day ... because this is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

I'm guessing AFD is "April Fools Day" travel agency

If not, sign me up for eight weeks next winter!

Good one!

I've got to go along with Bill-H on this one. But do they recognize April Fools Day in Tanzania?

Tom (hguy47), I did some more checking and maybe this is real after all ...

Seems like AFD uses leased Fed-Ex cargo planes fitted as troop carriers for the flights, piloted by illegal immigrants to keep wages low. This explains the low costs (and is similar to a couple of airlines I've flown in the US, I think).

As for the "4 star lodges" Coordinator mentions, these are Wildlife Lodges with fresh paint but the catch is you have to sleep four in a room, thanks to the removeable cots. You can pay extra and sleep in a room with no windows or doors (they call this the almost-tented non-mobile option) so you get the feel of "real Africa".

You are limited to only 8 passengers per jeep so everyone has the much vaunted 'window view' (even if half the time it's over someone's shoulder) though in the case of the person sitting in the middle of the back row it's a 'rear window view'.

But what the heck, you'll be in Africa!

Sounds like a winner to me ... but check back tomorrow as more details become available.

I'm still rolling on the floor and it's no longer April 1st. Boy oh boy, so much to look forward to a year out. How thoughtful of you for for considering us in these plans. Now, all we have to hear is "and, it's a comp trip."
